Recommendations on how to grow the Naira
Hey Readers,
This article is linked to my previous post on What every Nigerian must know about the Exchange rate. Recently, we have watched
the price of foreign currency rise by 100% in less than 6 months, Presently, 1 dollar in Nigeria costs 199 naira in Central bank of Nigeria and
375 naira in the Open market. Someone might say
“I don’t make use of foreign goods so it doesn’t really affect me”? Before you make quick judgement on that, look around you, a bag of pure water now is 100 naira instead of 80 naira, we can rarely purchase bread for 50 naira, photocopy is now 10
or 20 naira for a page, Yellow bulb is now 100 naira among others. These are the
things that we use daily so it does concern us. Most of the things we use
in Nigeria are imported,virtually everything even down to our food stuffs. This situation affects everyone. Obviously, something needs to be done. Now, let's discuss on few steps that will help the system;

What every Nigerian must know about the Exchange rate: Part 4
EXCHANGE RATE APPRECIATION AND DEPRECIATION
The price of money can rise and fall
like any other item in the market, depending on the way people are demanding for
them. For example, the price of 1 dollar in Nigeria as at 2010 was 111.58 naira,
but in 2009, it was 125 naira, now(February, 2016) its cost 199 naira. So
between 2009 and 2010 the price of Dollar fell from

WHY ARE WE ALWAYS MEASURING EXCHANGE RATE WITH
DOLLAR?
The reason is that the American
dollar is the most stable currency, this means that the value does not increase
and decrease like that of other currency. For instance, if the naira was used
as a standard measure it will be bad because the value keeps fluctuating. I can
buy recharge card in March with 100 naira, by December I can’t buy it again;
it’s now 110 naira then the next year it changes. In 2011, 1500 naira could
take me from Lagos to Awka, but now that amount of money cannot, it’s now 4000
naira and above. The American dollar value does not change like this, that’s
why it is used as a standard measure.
WHY MAY I NEED TO BUY DOLLAR?
