I find the method the senators use in reaching their decisions very funny. Knowing the importance of the senate and the bills the pass as laws in Nigeria, I find saying Ai or Nay
a little bit unserious. This method may allow for senators and representatives with louder voices control the passage and throwing out of bills no matter how crucial and important the bill may be to national development and it may also be bad for women seeking for gender equality.
Just last month following Ese's (kinapped girl) case, a bill was brought to the senate house which was for more and equal right to women in marriage with respect to their husband's property. But guess what happened? Of course every female in the house was in favour of the bill including some men and the male senator who brought the bill to the house; but how dare you compare the voices of women to that of men who were naturally created to have loud voices. So when the usual question was asked, those in favour say Ai, those against say Nay.... of course those in favour were mostly women and their loud Aiiiiiiiii!! were not enough to defeat the loud Naayyyyyyyy!!! that came from men with theie loud bass and baritone voices and just like that, another voice towards gender equality went down the drain.
Obviously, what do you think will be the response of the lawmakers when the bill is to increase their salaries, Ai or Nay?
